Your child has begun their LAMDA lessons.
They are having a fantastic time learning new skills, but what is required of them for the exam?

Introductory Exams
Designed for Key Stage 1, the LAMDA Introductory Exams are a great way for younger learners to begin their journey.
There are three stages. Pupils will be asked to recite a poem for the examiner and then have a conversation with them. They will have practised the content of this conversation in class.
Grade 1
The pupil will perform a monologue chosen from the LAMDA Anthology and one of their own choice for the examiner. They will then discuss the Appearance, Feelings and Location of their character.
Grade 2
The pupil will perform one monologue chosen from the LAMDA Anthology and one of their own choice for the examiner. They will then discuss the Appearance, Feelings and Location of their character and what is happening in the scene.
Grade 3
The pupil will perform one monologue chosen from the LAMDA Anthology and one of their own choice for the examiner. They will then discuss the Appearance, Feelings and Location of their character, what is happening and the mood of the scene.
Grade 4
The pupil will perform one monologue chosen from the LAMDA Anthology and one of their own choice for the examiner. They will then discuss the Working Stage, how their characters are feeling, what their characters are trying to achieve and what are the reasons for their physical characterisation.
Grade 5
The pupil will perform one monologue chosen from the LAMDA Anthology and one of their own choice for the examiner. They will then discuss the Working Stage and the reasons for their use of staging, how their characters are feeling, what their characters are trying to achieve, how they are reacting and what are the reasons for their physical characterisation.
Grade 6
The pupil will perform one piece from the 21st century and one of their own choice from one of the following periods:
Ancient Greek and Roman
Elizabethan and Jacobean
Restoration and Post Restoration
1800-2000
They will then discuss their characters objective, their characters role in the play and the breathing techniques used.
Grade 7
The pupil will perform three monologues all of their own choice. Two must be from the following periods:
Ancient Greek and Roman
Elizabethan and Jacobean
Restoration and Post Restoration
1800-2000
They will then discuss the characters objective and their role in the play overall. They will also discuss the writing style and the period in which the author was writing.
Grade 8
The pupil will perform three monologues all of their own choice. 1 must be from a play from the 21st century. 1 must be from a play from between 1800-2000. 1 must be from one of the following periods:
Ancient Greek and Roman
Elizabethan and Jacobean
Restoration and Post Restoration
They will then discuss the process involved in developing 3 characters for performance. The characters role within the context of the play. The key principles and influences in the process of acting from one of the following practitioners:
Stanislavski
Brecht
Artaud
Kneehigh
Grotowski
Katie Mitchell
Joan Littlewood
